How to tell a compliant LPG cylinder: 7 quick checks
Seven checks for dealers and users to spot a compliant LPG cylinder: stamped data, welds, body, paint, valve, tare weight and the records that come with it.
Read articleLPG cylinder traceability relies on the serial number and batch code stamped on the cylinder, the seal and the QR code. The benefits for dealers and users, and how to check a gas cylinder yourself before accepting it.

A gas cylinder passes through many hands: the cylinder manufacturer, the filling plant, the dealer, the user and then back round again. LPG cylinder traceability is the ability to know who made a specific cylinder, which batch it belongs to, when it was inspected and which company filled it. It is the foundation for quality management, handling incidents and fighting counterfeits and imitations.
The list of serial numbers for each batch is part of the LPG cylinder inspection records that the manufacturer delivers with every batch.
Many brands apply a label with a QR code or a unique code; by scanning or entering the code, users can view the cylinder’s details, filling date and distributor. When ordering cylinders under your own brand, you can ask the manufacturer to leave a suitable position and format for the label — see ordering private-label LPG cylinders.
Note: a label is only meaningful when the system behind it is kept fully up to date; the serial number stamped on the cylinder remains the most durable means of identification.
No. The serial number stays with the cylinder for its whole life; at each periodic inspection the inspection date is updated but the serial number remains the same.
Not necessarily. Not every brand uses QR labels; check the seal, the brand and the inspection date, and buy from a reputable dealer.
Yes. VietnhatGas delivers a list of serial numbers for each batch together with the inspection report and the factory inspection sheet.
