What determines LPG cylinder price? A guide for dealers
LPG cylinder prices differ between manufacturers because of capacity, steel, valve, painting and brand printing, batch size, inspection documents and transport. How to compare quotes properly.

When asking about LPG cylinder price, many dealers receive figures that differ quite widely from one supplier to the next. The reason is that each quote comes with a different configuration: steel, valve, paint colour, quantity, documents and delivery terms. This article explains the factors that make up the price of a cylinder and how to put quotes on the same basis so you can compare them properly.
The factors that determine LPG cylinder price
1. Capacity and cylinder specification
A 45kg cylinder uses more steel, has longer welds and is heavier to transport than a 12kg cylinder, so it costs more. Custom capacities (other than 12kg and 45kg) may need their own dies and jigs — this cost is usually spread over the first batch.
2. Steel and wall thickness
Steel plate made specifically for pressure vessels, the wall thickness and the origin of the steel (with CO (certificate of origin) and CQ (certificate of quality) documents) make up the largest part of the cost. Steel prices move with the market, so cylinder quotes are usually only valid for a set period.
3. Valve type
Handwheel valves, clip-on valves, thread types and valve brands all differ in price. Some orders are for cylinders without valves fitted, so the customer can fit their own. See also LPG cylinder handwheel valve.
4. Painting, printing and brand embossing
A custom paint colour to a RAL or Pantone code, the number of print colours, an embossed logo, anti-counterfeit labels or QR codes all add to the cost. A new colour ordered for the first time also needs a sample cylinder for approval. Details in LPG cylinder powder coating.
5. Batch size
Every change of paint colour or stamping die means another machine set-up. The larger the batch, the smaller the set-up cost per cylinder — which is why large-batch prices are usually better and why manufacturers set a minimum order quantity.
6. Testing and inspection documents
Pressure testing every cylinder, leak testing, weld inspection and a set of inspection documents for each batch are unavoidable costs of a compliant cylinder. An unusually low quote calls for careful questions on this point — see LPG cylinder pressure testing and LPG cylinder inspection records.
7. Packaging, transport and payment
An ex-works price differs from a price delivered to your warehouse; palletising, steel frames or PE stretch wrapping also vary. Payment terms (a deposit, payment in instalments) sometimes affect the unit price. See our delivery policy and payment policy.
How to compare LPG cylinder quotes properly
Same configuration: same capacity, steel thickness, valve type, number of print colours, with or without embossing.
Same delivery terms: ex-works or delivered to your warehouse, whether packaging is included, whether VAT is included.
Same documents: whether there is a batch inspection report and CO and CQ for the steel and valves.
Same validity: how long the quote is valid and how long delivery will take.
A cheaper quote that lacks inspection documents or uses steel of unknown origin will cost far more when cylinders have to be scrapped early or run into problems. See how to tell a compliant LPG cylinder.

Capacity and expected quantity for the first and later batches.
Why is there no fixed LPG cylinder price on the website?
Because the price depends on the configuration, the quantity and the steel price at the time of ordering. A quote based on your exact requirements lets you know precisely what your costs will be.
Do several batches a year get a better price?
Usually yes, because the manufacturer can plan steel and production in advance. Specific terms are agreed in the contract.
Does the cylinder price include inspection?
Ask clearly in each quote. At VietnhatGas, every batch leaving the factory comes with inspection documents and a quality control sheet.
